Did anyone figure out where they were coming from?
I was too busy getting taken to the ER (not to mention being too scared) to stick around and find out.
Fortunately it's just a really bad penetrating wound where the pellet fell out (found it in my leggings in the ER). I"m home now, trying to sleep with my leg elevated.
I might not be there next week.

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 6:11 AMI got shot in the leg walking back to the car crossing over Bryant towards the Shell station. We heard a couple other shots as we were walking away from the club to the corner, sounded like they hit the building. We heard another one as we were crossing the street and that's when my leg started hurting, once over to the other side my friend called the police after we noticed that my leg was bleeding. We also got shot at 2 more times while we were taking cover in the car (the pellets hit the car) waiting for the paramedics to show up. -

Get better. Hope they caught the creeps.

Had I been there I could have used my stealth kit and taken that guy out for you.
Next time this happens just press "Q" and call in your squad. Keep an extra med pack if you get in too deep.
Don't forget the advanced.. wait... Oh, real life. heh, get yourself a Ninja!

Sorry to hear you were hurt by some major asshole.

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 6:13 PMThis is a good time to go over a few reminders for people and their safety:
If you are not far from the club, and something is wrong, GET BACK TO THE CLUB. We can help deal with it. If the problem is standing between you and the club, get back to your car. If the problem is at your car, get back to the club. Even if the club is closed, if the roll down door is up, go inside. Somebody is there and they will help you.
If you dial 911 form your cellphone, don't expect any help. Cell 911 goes to the CHP, who then has to route your call. That's precious time slipping away. If you are in San Francisco and you need 911 dial: 553-8090. If you need regular dispatch for a cop to show up quickly but not an emergency: 553-0123. Put these numbers into your cell phones.
We have had problems in the past near the Shell station, so be wary there. I'm guessing from your description that the pellets were being fired from that direction.

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 7:03 PMWe're guessing the shooter was on the roof of the building near that Mexican restaurant. When we heard the first shots, we were walking away from the club and decided that just getting to the car was the safest bet. It was when we were crossing over to the gas station when I got hit. I believe my friend called SFPD directly (or at least through directory assistance) and we sat in the safety of my husband's car.
Thanks for the numbers though.
As long as my leg continues to feel better, I'll be there next week. I love this club too much to let this stop me from ever coming back. That and I'll have a ton of friends around for backup. =)

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 9:36 PMShatter,
Although your advice is great and I'm 100% sure it is true for SF, not all cellphone 911 calls go to the CHP, some actually go to local police (personal experience). That is a city by city thing. So if one doesn't have the local police numbers and there is an emergency don't spend time looking for the local numbers, call 911. -
-
Re: Pellet gun shootings
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 10:22 PMIn California, ALL Cell 911 call are directed to the CHP. Yes, the numbers I gave are for SF, and if you hang in SF at all, it's good to have those. Outside of SF, use reg 911.

E911 Alt #'s Bay Area
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 1:38 AMShatter is correct. In California the E911 system for ALL Cellular providers goes to CHP Dispatch.** Different states have alternative routing for E911 services. It is not a Federal mandate on how they have to route the calls, only that they HAVE to route the calls.
** (It is possible that some small providers in extremely rural areas may do some sort of alternate local emergency routing as an exception to the rule.)
Here are some handy #'s. They are the full phone numbers for 911 in the listed cities (Always good to have in your cell phone.)
Berkeley: 510-981-5911
Emeryville: 510-596-3737
Oakland: 510-770-3211
San Francisco: 415-553-8090
NOTE: THESE ARE 911! They are for emergency use only. -

Wed, June 11, 2008 - 1:55 AM"In California, ALL Cell 911 call are directed to the CHP"
False. Ones from cells containing major state highways are routed to the CHP. The rest in many cities go directly to local police dispatch. -

I am sorry Waldemar, most major metropolitan areas (in California) route calls to the CHP call centers. This is true for San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Sacramento, Truckee, and most of the other larger cities. This will be the case for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, & Metro-PCS. This is also the case for most of the smaller carriers throughout the state and those that wind up "roaming" in California. There are some small providers that will route you to the local police dept in some small towns/very rural areas. If you are in one of those small towns and do happen to still pick up a major provider such as Verizon, you will get the CHP. This is to just expand on my note posted earlier: (** (It is possible that some small providers in extremely rural areas may do some sort of alternate local emergency routing as an exception to the rule.) ) I do not remember which ones those are. I will see if I can remember where the E911 mobile routing list is and post it later.
By all means if you can post a city/town that you know will route you to the local police instead of the CHP, please let me know. I would like to check the carrier info. (Please what carrier routed the call to the local PD as well. -Thanks.)
Another number that may be of interest: CHP Vallejo dispatch (non-emergency): 707-551-4100
Note: the Vallejo call center is where most of your Northern California E911 calls usually will get routed to. -

Wed, June 11, 2008 - 9:52 AM> the Vallejo call center is where most of your Northern California E911 calls usually will get routed to.
That would explain a lot.

Let's see, the "small rural towns" I know about that handle their own 911 cell phone calls from all carriers (except from cells containing major state highways) include South San Francisco, Burlingame, San Bruno, Redwood City, Belmont, Hillsborough, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Menlo Park, San Carlos, rest of San Mateo County, ... -

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 2:41 PMAlthough it was years ago (more then 5) and things certainly do change, I've had cell 911 calls go directly to San Jose and Sunnyvale. At the time I was using GTE, which became Verizon, and Verizon, but at those times San Jose and Sunnyvale where my home areas. 3 years ago, I made a cell 911 which went to the CHP from South San Francisco when SSF wasn't my home area. I don't know, maybe home area matters in how things get routed. In the end, does it really matter how it gets through as long as it gets through?
What I do know is that if you don't have a local emergancy number, call 911. You may experience a short delay but you will eventually be connected with the appropirate people. I also know that looking for a local emergancy number will likely take longer then getting routed through the CHP. -

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 5:27 PMseems to me you're both right...this if from the SFPD web site
"Note: When calling 911 on a cellular phone near a highway, the call is connected to The California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch center. In other areas in San Francisco, the call will connect directly to SF dispatch. You can also dial directly to SF dispatch:"

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 9:21 PMLike I said, trust me on this. There's a reason in security training they make is very clear DO NOT CALL 911 DIRECT from a cell phone for emergency. It will take way too long to get a response. Call direct when you are on the road, that's fine.
Land line 911 is a different beast. We're talking about Cell.

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 9:36 PMI've dialed 911 several times from my cellphone. Every time, it has taken at least two minutes (and twice over five) to get connected to any operator at all. Two minutes is *way* too long if there's a situation, and five is damned near past any usefulness.
I'll be locking in the local SFPD emergency number; thank you for providing it. :)

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Sat, June 7, 2008 - 3:27 AMJust so it's out there, additionally, Amanda wasn't the only person that got sniped by this fuckhead. My friend Alex also was shot in the hip, and she had to remove the BB from her skin as well.
I hope whoever did this dies in a fire. That shit is pretty fucked up. -
-
Re: Pellet gun shootings
Sat, June 7, 2008 - 6:36 PMI hope your friend Alex is doing better. My wound is healing nicely. I'm sure it was one of those things that could have been dealt with without the big hullabaloo from the paramedics, but fortunately I have a case number and was able to be seen right away in the ER. Turns out the pellet never pierced my leggings (but rather both went into my leg), I have a nifty souvenir now. If your friend is there next week, we'll have to compare battle wounds. -

Re: Pellet gun shootings
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 8:04 AMMy suspicious mind would love to know if that is the only location that night that had pellet gun wounds reported or if the perpetraters moved around the city sniping other club goers. Would be interesting to know.
I'm sure Shatter will be watching for these idiots in the future. Have things gotten so bad economically that people have nothing better to do than to inflict nonconsensual pain on others these days? WTF? -
-
Re: Pellet gun shootings
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 4:06 PMI certainly wouldn't mind inflicting a bit of non-consensual curb-stomping to whoever was doing this.
Indeed, Amanda, she's healing well. I hope you are doing the same.
